OOTD-Churidars and Frocks

3.25.2012

Hello all! I'm back with another OOTD. I'm a bit apprehensive about this one though because the last outfit post that I did, I had some really ignorant comments. Now the thing is, I live in Pakistan and my cultural dress is definitely going to be different than someone in the West. I don't go and comment on any Western fashion blogs and call them rude names just because the attire that is commonly worn there is different than what it is in my part of the world. I don't think it's asking for too much if I expect the same on my bog and my outfit posts. I've never had to delete ANY comment off my blog till the previous outfit post and hopefully I won't have to do that now. Constructive criticism is always welcome, hate, not so much. Now that the rant is over, let's get on with the outfit.

This is basically a frock with loooots of body in it as you can see from the picture above. It flows and has velvet lining on the sleeves and the daaman. The neck is a Chinese collar style. This is succcch a comfortable dress to wear and very flattering too in my opinion. Underneath, I'm wearing tights. I opted for tights instead of tailored churridar since that is way TOO uncomfortable for me and strechable tights stay put, literally, all day long. So you don't have to worry about the chuntay f the tights looking funny!

So what do you guys think? Please let me know in the comments below and make my day :D

Review-NYX Round Lipstick in Femme

3.19.2012

Everyone and their mothers have heard of NYX! They are an immensely popular brand and part of their popularity is because of their lip smacking round lipsticks which retail for the bargainalicious price of $4 a piece. They are marketed as a velvet finish lipstick which has a mineral based formula and is available in a jaw dropping 144 colors! That's quiiiite alot!

The lipstick I have at hand is in the shade Femme and I bought it since coral/orange-y lips are all the rage this year. I usually don't get on to trend band wagons so easily but there was something about the orange trend that caught my eye.

As you may be able to tell from the pictures above, I accidentally got a realllly orange lipstick which I was extremely hesitant to try at first. Upon application, the color was too bright for my Pakistani skin tone and just didn't work out for me. It made me look immensely tan in a particularly non-flattering way. BUT, for my extremely fair sister, it works wonderfully. It goes on as a gorgeous coral orange that's perfect for summer and spring.

The lipstick is really moisturizing and you don't need to wear any lip-balm underneath. It really does glide on smoothly but I'm not sure how it will fair in the Pakistani summers which melt most lipsticks. I've read alot of reviews where the lipsticks ended up melting in the tubes in the hotter months. I had also read reviews of flimsy packaging but the piece that I have is pretty sturdy and I can attest to that since I've dropped it quite a few times.

Although the lipstick is quite moisturizing, it does settle into lip creases pretty easily and emphasizes them alot. The lipstick has a lasting time of 2-3 hours maximum and it doesn't really have any scent to it but if you hold the tube really close to your nose (like the crazy person that I am) it smells kinda sweet, not repulsive at all.

As you can see from the swatches, it doesn't go on like the color in the tube, but it is very pigmented nevertheless.

SUMMARY
1. Retails for $4.
2. Excellent pigmentation.
3. Moisturizing, but settles into fine lines.
4.Lasts for 2-3 hours
5.Would look best on fairer skin tones

NYX is primarily available online at their official website here, although Cherry Culture  and Pork Daisy usually sell NYX products for discounted prices and ship internationally as well. If you're in the States, the only place to but NYX in-store is at ULTA. For Pakistani users, NYX is sold on many Facebook pages like Beauty Unleashed  :)

Hope you guys like the review. Let me know how your experience with NYX lipsticks has been. Are there any other must-have products from NYX that I should be trying?

Until next time, tc :)

The 7 Deadly Sins of Beauty

3.17.2012

The 7 Deadly Sins of Beauty tag has been going around since quite a while in the YouTube and blogger world, so I thought I’d get on to it and give it a go as well. Hope you guys enjoy it.

GREED-What are your cheapest and most expensive beauty products?

Since I’m a drugstore makeup kind of girl my most expensive beauty related product will have to be Givenchy’s Ange Ou Etrange perfume that retails for about $60-ish? The cheapest products that I have are the Sweet Touch nail polishes that retail for PKR 90 only!

WRATH-What do you have a love/hate relationship with? What has been your hardest product to find?

The product I have a love/hate relationship with are all kind of loose shadows/pigments/shimmers! They fly away everywhere and even though I’d love to apply them for their excellent pigmentation etc, I just can’t be bothered with all the fly aways ugh! The hardest product for me to find has to be the Nikhar Eye Cream that I was just DYING to try out since everyone had their dark circles disappear because of this. Since it’s primarily only available at a store called Roop Singhar which isn’t here in the Capital, I couldn’t find it anywhere for ages and ages! Had to get it during one of my trips to Lahore.

GLUTTONY-What is your most delicious beauty product?

The Body Shop products usually tend to be really appetizing but my favorite smelling one out o the bunch would have to be the Strawberry Born Lippy and NYC’s sliding lip balm thing which smells like the best vanilla ever!

SLOTH-What beauty products do you neglect because of laziness?

Definitely eye primers! No questions asked.

PRIDE-What beauty product gives you more confidence?

I would’ve normally answered with concealer but my skin’s been a harvesting field for ugly pimples lately, I’d have to say foundation for now although my skin is usually very well behaved and I can get away without having any foundation on most of the days!

LUST-What attributes do you find attractive in the opposite gender?

Nice smelling men are my favorite! My favorite male scent ever has to be Paco Rabanne’s One Million! I love it soo soo much that I’m seriously thinking of investing in the male version for myself!

ENVY-What item would you most like to receive as a gift?

I could make a list that would go on and on and onnn! But since none of the items that I want are available in Pakistan, here are my top 3-
1. Butter London Black Knight Polish
2..Revlon Lip Butters! ( I want all the darker shadess!)
3. Chanel Vita Lumiere Aqua

Hope you guys liked this post! I tag everyone to do it, and if possible post a link in the comments below since this has to be my favorite tag out there these days!

Until next time, tc.

OOTN-Welcome Party!

3.16.2012

A couple of weeks back I had my university welcome party for the first semester students and since my batch isn't too old, we were invited too! Here's what I wore-hope you guys like it :)

What I wore was a pishwass-frocky thing in a royal purple, that was a bit darker than what it seems in the pictures because of the flash photography. The best part about this dress in my opinion was the beaded detail at the top and I think it met the formal attire requirement of the evening quite well.

What do you guys think about the dress? Let me know in the comments below :)

Until next time, tc :)

Review-Rimmel Hide the Blemish Concealer

3.11.2012

Rimmel Hide the Blemish concealer has to be the worst concealer ever in the history of concealers. Lathering it on or using it sparingly, nothing would cover either your under eye circles or your blemishes.

Although creamy at first, it dries out pretty quickly and starts to crack and break off bit by bit. I tried using this on my blemishes a few times and every time, this concealer would leave my blemishes incredibly dry around the edges with a small circle of dryness surrounding them which would bring about a lot of unwanted attention to the area. With my dark circles, it did not do much even on the days that I had the least amount of dark circles. Applying, or not applying brought about almost the same results. I could write this post all day and bash the crap out of it , but what’s the point. Maybe the reason that I’m so incredibly annoyed with this concealer is because I had read only rave reviews of it everywhere and had expected quite a lot from it. Guess all my expectations went down the drain and more..

Price- Rs. 440

What do you guys think? Ever tried this concealer? What is your HG concealer that you just can't live without? Let me know in the comments below (:

Until next time, tc.

Product Rave-Rimmel London Clean Finish Foundation

3.05.2012

I may have found the best foundation ever! (in my humble opinion, that is). The even better part is that it's drugstore! I have loved Maybelline's Dream Matte Mousse Foundation since ages but this may quickly be taking the part of my favorite foundation instead of that one. I got the foundation in this haul a while back and I've been loving it ever since.

The packaging is very basic and clean and the glass bottle that it comes in makes it seems worth more than its extremely cheap price of $3.99. This foundation has some very humble claims, and as far as I'm concerned it does exactly what it says. According to Rimmel this foundation is supposed to look 100% pore-less , give a natural complexion, is lightweight, fragrance free and dermatologically tested. It also has properties of Vitamin A and E in it which act as anti-oxidants. The foundation literally glides on your skin and is easily blend able although you would have to be a bit fast about it and not let it sit on your face for 5 minutes because in that case it will be a bit difficult to blend, not impossible though.

The weirdest part about this foundation has to be the spatula applicator thingi. It is definitely a different concept of having a spatula instead of a pump but I'm really glad the Rimmel people decided to keep this instead of making us pour the foundation in our hands which is just plain messy and such a pain! Since the foundation has a consistency somewhere between a creamy and a liquid and almost seems like a whipped formula, using the spatula is extremely simple and hassle free.

The foundation makes you look as close to flawless as humanly possible and although I don't have pores as such this still makes my skin look exceptionally smoother and nicer looking! The foundation is definitely build able and I haven't found it to be drying when more than one coat of it is applied which is the case with so many other foundation I've used. Since I got this foundation I haven't set it with a powder once and it lasts me a good 5-6 hours without me having to reapply and powder my face. I have combination skin so this makes life soo much easier for me when I have to rush out in the mornings as I don't have to worry about setting this foundation with a powder.

In most foundation, I'm usually the color Golden Beige or Nude, but the shade I accidentally got was Classic Beige which is a few shades lighter than what my skin tone is. HOWEVER, I have still been using this foundation because even though it doesn't claim to have any color adjusting properties, I believe that it does. I don't have a grey ghostly cast on my face after this and neither do my pictures turn out with my face being fairer compared to my neck. All in all, BEST.FOUNDATION.EVER!

PRICE-$3.99! Amaaaazing! Even for a drugstore foundation since drugstore foundations are now moving towards the $9-$10 mark!

SUMMARY-
1. Offers medium coverage, easily buildable.
2. Doesn't break me out, practically fragrance free.
3. Smooths and evens out skin, hides pores.
4. Although not mattifying, it doesn't need to be set with a powder.
5. STAYS ON!

Hope you guys liked the review. This foundation is, unfortunately not available in Pakistan. I got my one when one of my friends was coming from America. For those in America, this foundation is readily available at all drugstores and ULTA.

Please leave your feedback in the comments below and let me know what your fvouritefoundation is.

Until next time, tc.
